LEED Green Building Rating System


Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) has developed a national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.  The rating system  provides a framework for assessing

•  Sustainability
•  Energy-efficiency
•  Overall environmental impact.

A building project can earn LEED points by incorporating various green-building elements.

SmartBlock™ insulated concrete forms can contribute more than 25 points towards the 69 available points for a LEED NC certified structure.  

The obvious savings in energy use, and increased efficiency in air-quality are two main factors in building with SmartBlock ICF's.

Energy saving is the most heavily-weighed  criteria, and there are10 points achievable.   Because SmartBlock™ provides a high-performance thermal envelope, it is possible to achieve all 10 points using this system.

There is minimal waste during  the construction process,  and therefore the destruction of natural habitat is minimized as well. 

SmartBlock™ uses recycled plastic for their inserts, concerned with a low-carbon footprint, and the EPS foam has no toxic gaseous emissions.

All of these factors, assist in adding up to a platinum candidate for LEEDs ratings and certification.
